In early 1960s, some of the people of Porong Community went back to Tibet to bring
De-nyid Due-pa texts: the works of Bodong Panchen Chogley Namgyal, sacred objects.
They were able to bring the most sacred statue of Bodong Panchen called “Looks Like Me”
along with many others. Though they put lots of effort, unfortunately they were unable to
bring all the texts across the border.
Powo Ngawang, along with several other monks took care of the statue and some other sacred
objects. With great support by the Porong people, they were later able to construct a small
monastery in Kathmandu, where the sacred statue and others were housed and some new novice
monks were admitted.
