Practical Steps Needed For Reviving the Bodong Tradition

  1. Creation of a conducive place for the teaching and practice of this tradition. The new Bodong monastery in Nepal will serve as the learning center for the Bodong tradition.
  2. Publication of texts for study and further research (about this tradition). This is being done at the Bodong Research and Publication Center, Dharamsala.
  3. The establishment of an authentic teaching lineage. The teaching lineage has so far been traced in the Kagyu, Sakya and Nyingma traditions. We are trying to receive these teachings from authentic and non-controversial Rinpoches and spiritual masters.
  4. Passing on the lineage in conjunction with a good foundation and understanding of Buddhist philosophy. The young reincarnatation of Bodong Lama Dampa Sonam Gyaltsen is studying at Zongkar Choede in South India and four other monks from Porong Pelmo Choeding monastery are studying Buddhist philosophy at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics in Dharamsala.
  5. Education of ordained monks and nuns which enables them to uphold both the lineage and principles of Vinaya as well as to organize future teachings and practice in this tradition.
  6. Monastic rituals and prayers: We are trying to advance the qualities of the monastic practice.
  7. To extend the research on the Bodong tradition, particularly on Bodong Panchen Chogley Namgyal and his works, we have asked and supported a doctoral researcher at Delhi University.
